Cleveland and TeessideWhilst not an official area anymore, this area contains the conurbations of Middlesbrough, Redcar and Stockton. Although regarded by many, including some of its inhabitants, as an industrial wasteland, there are many attractions. As well as the beautiful country that spills into North Yorkshire, there is the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Middlesborough. The Kirkleatham Museum in Redcar is an excellent introduction to the history of the whole region. Back in Middlesborough you can see the Transporter Bridge, the largest of its type in the world, and a great piece of engineering history. |
