EssexOften unfairly mocked as a dull county and simply an outpost of London, Essex in fact has a character all of its own. It is still largely rural in character, with landscapes ranging from rolling farmland to the ancient woodlands of Hatfield and Epping. It is steeped in history, with castles such as Colchester and impressive stately homes such as Audley End. Add to that such resorts as the vibrant Southend, and smaller, attractive towns such as Coggeshall and Saffron Walden and it is clear Essex has something for all tastes. |
