Hertfordshire
Apart from its proximity to London, Hertfordshire has a wealth of interesting sites within its own borders. Visit St. Alban’s, home to the first British Christian martyr and see the cathedral and the roman remains. Or spend time at Berkhamsted, with its excellent castle ruins. Knebworth has a fine house and grounds and you can time your visit to coincide with one of the summer rock festivals. See the magnificent Hatfield House, one of England’s most historic stately homes. If shopping is your thing then Watford is the largest town in the area.
