Lanarkshire
Near to Lanark is the World Heritage site of New Lanark. Developed by the famous philanthropist and mill owner Robert Owen, it is a beautifully reconstructed eighteenth century mill town that still works as a living community. Close enough to Glasgow to take advantage of its shopping facilities and nightlife, Lanarkshire is far enough away to enjoy the peaceful countryside and wildlife. Also in Lanarkshire you can play golf on Britain's highest course, Leadhills, or visit Bothwell, Scotland's largest thirteenth century castle.
