Nottinghamshire

Nottingham itself is both a city with ancient traditions and buildings, and a modern, vibrant place with a range of excellent shops, restaurants and night life in general. Be sure to see the castle which now contains an excellent museum and art gallery. Outside Nottingham you can visit the prosperous town of Southwell with its glorious church, or see the grave of Lord Byron at Hucknall parish church. The county is also D.H. Lawrence country and there are many mementoes to him in his old home town of Eastwood. Other attractions include the village of Laxton; the last place where medieval style farming continues, and of course no visit would be compete without seeing Robin Hood territory in Sherwood Forest.
