North YorkshireAn area of breathtaking country, with the Yorkshire Dales to the west, and the North Yorkshire moors to the East. At the very eastern edge of the county there is the coast; a mix of long stretches of beach and rugged cliffs. There are small old towns like Whitby, interspersed with grand old resorts like Scarborough. York itself has a wealth of attractions, including the famous Minster and the castle walls. Stately homes, such as Castle Howard and Harewood House are well worth visiting. There are numerous important abbey ruins, such as Fountains and Rievaulx, and castles at Richmond and Skipton. |
