The Isles of Scilly

Just thirty miles off the coast of Cornwall The Isles of Scilly have their own identity and are a very popular tourist destination, not least because of the overall mildness of the climate. There is little traffic and the overall impression is peace and tranquillity. There is much wildlife; some of it not found elsewhere in Britain. The Islands are a Mecca for birdwatchers. St. Mary's is the largest of the islands and its capital Hugh Town has many shops and restaurants. The Islands have many historical remains, not least of which are the standing stones, burial chambers and Bronze Age villages.
