Stirlingshire

The principal city of the county is the ancient city of Stirling, it contains the only church in Britain, apart from Westminster Abbey to have witnessed a coronation; that of Mary Queen of Scots son James (later king of England as well). Remnants of Stirling's history and strategic importance can be easily found; they include the impressive castle remains. Near to Stirling is the site of the Battle of Bannockburn; one of the great battles in Scotland's struggle for independence, and a great victory for Robert The Bruce. The Wallace Memorial is also worth seeing and Stirling can be used as an excellent base for tours of The Highlands.
