Tyne and Wear
Although it stands on the edge of beautiful countryside, and has a wonderful heritage coastline, it is industry and urban life that marks this area, together with the two great rivers, The Tyne and The Wear. Be sure to see the modern sculpture that has already become an iconic landmark; "the Angel of The North" on the A1 just outside Gateshead. In Newcastle you can enjoy a thriving friendly city with excellent shopping centres and a full range of buzzing night spots. If you are interested in architecture and design, then The Tyne is spanned by several important bridges, from the famous Tyne Bridge itself, to the modern classic the "Blinking Eye" bridge.
