West Yorkshire

The county is home to the cities of Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield. It has an important industrial past, with mining and textiles being the principal industries. Leeds is now an important commercial centre, and as you might expect is a very lively city with good nightlife and shopping. You can visit the Royal Armouries Museum, the City Art Gallery or nearby Kirkstall Abbey. The impressive Saltaire Model Town is a world heritage site and well worth a visit. At Bradford the National Media museum is an essential stop for anyone interested in the history of film and television. The county was of course home to the Brontes, so do visit the museum at Haworth.
